The Real Life with Ril Lee and ROCKU Yakiniku!

Hola friends! Ril Lee here. Basically I started this blog as a way to share with all of you my experiences in life. Well maybe sometimes it may include random musings. :/

Anyway, let's get started, recently a friend I visited the rechristened "Illuma", now known as Bugis +, and we stumbled upon a really cool restaurant called "ROCKU Yakiniku" on the 4th floor. For those who are unaware, yakiniku refers to grilled meat in Japanese. So ROCKU Yakiniku is a Japanese charcoal grill joint, whereby your food is served raw and you cook it over a charcoal grill, which is present at every table.

Here's a video of a fellow diner cooking his food there! CLICK THIS!

So the place had a pretty ballin' interior. (Retrieved from the ROCKU Yakiniku Facebook page)

Well the interior is a very dimly lit place, really chill, and the bare brick walls were adorned with graffiti giving it a very urban industrial feel. And while I am not too big a fan of Korean pop, I was able to "somewhat" enjoy the music there! Alas I'll give the atmosphere a 4/5.

Well let's get on to food. The place has various assortments of beef, pork, chicken and other meats. Some examples include their Wagyu Beef Brisket, their US Ribeye for beef, and their pork loin and shoulder for the pork. However the assortment is much wider, and I believe they have a menu up on their Facebook page which I'll link to you later!

Unfortunately, my friend and I did not pop by on the weekend and therefore we were not eligible for their weekend buffet deal :( however, we did have a good meal. We shared a pork combo which includes the loin, shoulder, belly and jowl and some vegetables. It even came with 2 awesome bowls of fried rice and miso soup! Well the food was fantastic, and the portions were generous, goodness me, we were stuffed! I'll give the food a 4/5

Here you go! A picture of the wonderful pork combo. #damnson

For drinks we treated ourselves to a jug of Asahi (which is draft by the way!). It was $23 dollars reasonably priced. But fear not! For those of you who don't really enjoy beer or alcoholic beverages, the place does offer a range of non-alcoholic drinks.

The service staff there were really friendly and helpful, and their manager was especially nice. For me that sometimes can be the game-changer for restaurants or bars. Good service and friendliness can easily override mediocre food or drinks. However in this situation both the food and service was good! :D I'd rate the service a 5/5.

Overall, it's a pretty awesome chill place, great for having a meal with a friend just enjoying the atmosphere. My friend, Jimmy, and I will definitely attest to that. We had a great time, great food, great drinks and an experience with great service staff. Overall, the place deserves a good 4.5/5 stars.

It's an awesome joint, and I'd recommend it to anyone just looking for a really cool place to have your om noms. Check out the Facebook page here!

Well anyway guys, I hope you had a good read and I was able to convince you to check out ROCKU Yaikiniku! Regardless, I'll be looking forward to the next time I establish cyber contact with all of you. Have a good week ahead guys!
